STRATUS was founded by a collective of young hobbyist film photographers who looked beyond the traditional gallery environment to bring people together.

We hosted our first publication launch event titled “Japan on Film” in January 2020 by unconventionally converting a retail store-front [ANNMS Shop] into a full-sized print photography gallery, complete with super 8 video film installations.

From 2020-2025, STRATUS became a platform for artists both locally and globally, developing compelling art and design, with specific consideration for platforming artists in traditionally underrepresented communities.

Our PHOTO*LAB opened in 2023 and has become a trustworthy place that has developed thousands of rolls for the community.

Since then, STRATUS has grown into a community of artists and avid hobbyists across a variety of art mediums, from film photography, videography, print publication, to more experiential digital or mixed media art.

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to nurture human creativity and connection: for physical landscapes, our mission has evolved to affirm our presence as an arts organization rooted in human-led creative everyday people, in every medium, at every stage of their practice.

MISSION

STRATUS is a non-profit organization on a mission to nurture human creativity and connection.

Three reoccurring values have guided us over the years. Without an emphasis on Community, Collaboration, and Creative Process, STRATUS would not have the impact in the way that we do.
